Kite!

I've really wanted to fly a kite lately. Timmy gave me one, and I never got around to using it. I never thought it was windy enough, but on Sunday when we walked to the water I realized that it is always windy by the water. It inspired me to fly the kite and today was the day! I stopped by at home after work to pick up the dog and the kite, picked up Pam, and went to Cesar Chavez park! We walked far out onto the peninsula so that we could let the dog off leash, and then we tried to fly the kite! The kite is one with two strings, so you can control it...but Pam and I never had much success with kites before. We giggled ourselves silly as we tried to launch the kite into the air unsuccessfully. Navi had to leap away from the kite dive-bombing to the ground several times after flights lasting less than a second. We even had some spectacular crashes where parts of the kite went flying. My tummy hurt from laughing. We'd hunt the missing kite parts down in the tall grass, put the kite back together again, and try, try again. Perseverance proved to have delightful results as we got pretty darn good with the kite. Navi would watch in wonder as the kite swooped to the left, to the right, and to the left again. We traded off flying and launching, and we stared at the kite in amazement as we got better and better with it. After a while, Navi rolled in the mud and we decided to call it quits, agreeing to come back another day!

  1. Grant and I used to love to fly kites when he was living in Virginia. We'd go to the high school sports fields on windy days.
